The Swedes KCAC match play took place on October 2nd and 3rd. The men’s side secured a perfect two days and came home with a KCAC Championship title. The women fought hard but fell short to return home with a 3rd-place finish.
After interviewing Coach Zach Able, he felt his team was well prepared going into the tournament, “--we tried to do a lot of match play at practice, so they got comfortable with that.” He knew it was going to be tough, but the Swedes remained focused and preserved through the two days. “--going in I kind of think it was just one day at a time, make sure we advance, and then we tackle it when we get there.”
While they may be young and have many fresh faces, the men’s side is a force to be reckoned with. “--I only have one senior on the guy’s side, and they look very comfortable and confident.” Coach Able was proud of his guys for staying focused and finishing out on top.
The women’s team faced some adversity going into the tournament with a team member suffering an injury, causing her to sit the first round. “I thought we played well down the stretch with Oklahoma Wesleyan, they just played a little bit better. Unfortunately, we fell short on that one. –but I was proud of the girls and the fact that we had to play the third-place match right after we had lost, and they bounced back very quickly.”
Overall, Coach Able applauds his team for the preparation and hard work they displayed throughout the tournament. Moving forward, Coach Able and his team will keep their sights set moving forward “--prepare the same, but what’s in the past is in the past, and we start preparing for the future.”
