BOO! SPOOKY SZN IS UPON US!

By Allison Young

Many of us are super excited to start the month of October! There’s so much to do through the month of October. Oh? You don’t know what to do? I gotcha! What comes to mind when October hits our calendars. Shall we list some things to do? Halloween is a scary scene with pumpkin cravings, pumpkin patches, scary movies with friends and also many treats to easily make in a dorm room with no oven or baking needed! Let’s start off with the most watched Halloween movies of all time. Sit back and grab some popcorn. Wait, you might spill it so maybe ditch the popcorn...

  1. Scream (1996)

  2. It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown (1966)

  3. Adams Family (1991)

  4. Hocus Pocus (1993)

  5. A Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

  6. Friday the 13th (1980-1993)

  7. Halloween “Series” (1978-2021)

  8. Beetlejuice (1989)

  9. Coraline (2009)

  10. The Witches (2020)

These are the most popular movies listed on top charts for Halloween themed. These movies can be found on Hulu, Netflix, HBO Max, and anywhere you can stream movies.

Next on our list for things to do leading up to Halloween. We have two pumpkin patches near us in good ol’ Lindsborg. These pumpkin patches are called Sunny Side pumpkin patch, and if you wanted to travel to Moundridge Ks, you could visit P and M Pumpkin Ranch. Every patch is relatively inexpensive so you should all have a good time with the events happening at each patch. Sunny Side pumpkin patch opens October 1st. P and M is now open from 4-7pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On the weekends they are open from 10am-7pm.

Moving toward desserts! Everyone wants a spooky treat leading up to Halloween! These are some easy and quick ways to satisfy your friends and family this spooky season. First dessert we will talk about is called Monster treats. Which is a rice crispy treat, some orange and brown candy melts and any candy you choose as eyeballs. The next treat is Mummy Heads, for this treat you will need oreos, white chocolate candy melts and wooden skewers to hold the mummy head. Boo! Done! Last but certainly not least is Dracula’s teeth. This treat requires any type of cookie you desire with marshmallows as the teeth but the fangs are made of peanuts and if you are allergic use candy corn. Then break the cookie in half and spread red frosting on the part you will place the marshmallows and make the top and bottom of the cookie meet with the marshmallows in the middle. Yummmm! Happy early Halloween everyone!
