Sports News Update 4/5

Women's Golf Team

The Swedes Women’s Golf Team took on the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes at Salina Country Club on Saturday, April 3rd, and the Turkey Creek Golf Course Sunday, April 4th. The Swedes would ultimately fall to the Coyotes 5-4.

Saturday the duo of Ida Lihufvudh and Alyssa Cardenas was able to win their match 5 & 4. Addison Botkin and Devorah Urea would lose 4 & 3, with Brooke Harrison and Gwen Tapia losing their match 2 & 1.

Sunday the Swedes went into singles matches down 2-1. Ida Lihufvudh lost 5 & 4 while Gwen Tapia halved her match. Devorah would lapse with Addison Botkin losing as well 3 & 2. Brooke Harrison and Alyssa Cardenas would win their matches, narrowing the dual 5-4 Coyotes.

The Swedes will host the Bethany College Classic at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas. The first set of matches begins Monday, April 11th at 10 AM and Tuesday, April 12th at 9 AM.

Track & Field

The Swedes track and field teams traveled to Wichita, Kansas Friday, April 1st, and Saturday, April 2nd to participate in the Falcon Invite hosted by Friends University. The Swedes had 21 personal bests, along with 4 top 8 finishes. Freshman Taylor Claussen of the women's team finished 4th in the javelin throw leading the Swedes and qualifying for the finals. The men's team was led by sophomore Enoch Ojo who finished 3rd in the Triple Jump. The men finished 14th as a team with the women finishing 22nd. The Swedes next meet will be Friday, April 15th at Bethel College.


Tennis

Saturday, April 2 the Swedes traveled to Wichita, Kansas competing against Friends University Falcons at Riverside Tennis Complex. The Falcons would sweep the Swedes on both men’s and women’s doubles starting off the day. For singles on the women’s side, the Swedes were unable to get a win at #1 from Jahzuena Bradshaw-Douglas. Piper Marquez at #5 was able to win their second game. #3 Tia Gregory and #4 Kiara Sweat would lose a close three sets.

For the men, Franco Hernandez Colman at #3 was able to win followed by #4 Daniel Lozano Machado getting a win as well. Both Swedes would lose 2-5 with the men dropping to 1-4 and the women 0-5 in KCAC play.
